Our Story

They say when one ice cream shop closes its doors, another one opens, and that’s exactly what happened when the only ice cream shop in Thornbury, Ontario scooped its last scoop in 2015.

Bike rides and beach days, pier jumps, and paddleboards; Thornbury is known as the place to spend summer, and the loss of the ice cream shop was felt throughout the community.

Living in the same small town for many years, Andrea and Rheanna managed to live somewhat parallel worlds until mutual friends connected them for a blind coffee date which led to one simple question… “Wanna open an ice cream shop?” After an impromptu (same day!) tour of the now-closed scoop shop, the two entrepreneurs signed off on a one-year lease.

With Rheanna’s background in cheffing and recipe development and Andrea’s experience as a restaurateur, the duo rolled up their sleeves and started brainstorming, and within six months of that serendipitous meeting, they opened up the windows of the scoop shop and haven’t looked back.

The one-year lease was a brilliant way to see if these two perfect strangers could work well as a team, and that they did. With their love of food and entrepreneurial spirit, Pom Pom has become more than they ever dreamed.

Andrea and Rheanna's dedication to ensuring there is a treat on the menu for everyone, no matter their needs or tastes, is paramount to the Pom Pom team, as well as their belief in the power of Community.

“We are proud to be a part of what makes Thornbury so special. Our supportive and vibrant community plays a huge role in defining the Pom Pom experience.”

Now with one move and many years of Treat Hut scoops under their belt, Pom Pom’s signature small-batch plant-based flavours are available at many different retailers, and are continuing to grow, one spoonful at a time.
